Last Thursday April 24, Fred Thompson had his first interview since dropping out of the presidential race on the show "Hannity & Colmes" on Fox News. Several issues were covered, including what he is currently doing and if he is willing to be the Vice President if McCain calls him. Thompson said that he is currently unemployed and is enjoying relaxing and not having to do the same speech every day, Thompson refers to it as a virtue, "It's the virtue of -- the virtue of being unemployed." When Thompson was asked if he regretted any aspect of his campaign he responded that he felt as if he should have entered earlier, "As it turned out, I underestimated the time it would take, you know, to staff up and to get our fundraising organization together." Another major topic that they interview touched on is McCain and his campaign. Thompson, although at times disagreed with McCain, feels as if McCain is solid on the issues that matter, "I would say to my friends that, on all of the issues that are most important to this country and to our future, and to the future generations, John McCain is solid on." Thompson formally said that he would not be the Vice Presidential nominee, even if McCain asks him to be. Thompson feels as if McCain deserves someone else and of different characteristics, " I think John needs somebody else. I would advise him, if he asked me, that he needs somebody else and of a different profile." It was an informative interview that concluded with Thompson's comments on the Democratic battle and his thoughts of Obama. Thompson believes that Obama is obscure and inexperienced, "Well, Senator Obama is a great unknown. I think seldom, if ever, has anyone gotten this far in the process and we've known less about them. He's new, and he's inexperienced."

He's Baaaaack!!

After that disappointing campaign candidate Fred Thompson went missing for several months. Now it appears as if Thompson has resurfaced with enthusiasm and vivacity. Recently, Thompson received roles in up coming films, however the films are unknown. Thompson will no longer be starring in "Law and Order." He has decided to move away from television and move on to the big screen since his unmemorable run for president. Thompson signed on with the prestigious acting agency William Morris. Although there is no information on what his next projects will be it is speculated that he will be cast as the usual political person. The William Morris Agency is one of the largest talent agencies in the entertainment industry. It was founded in 1898 and has since then has grown to 6 locations including New York, Beverly Hills, and Shanghai. The public is anxious to see former Republican candidate star in a major motion picture. Thompson hasn't really been in any blockbusters, hopefully soon we will see him in a greater light.

The semi-invisible man!

Well its safe to say that Thomspon, is fairly far off the radar. The man who once "fought" for a bid at the 2008 general election but backed out has since then, seen very little media coverage. What is mentioned of Thompson, for the most part, relates to coverage of McCain's nomination and the factors that went into that nomination. But Thomspon isn't completely in the dark just yet; The Manufacturers’ Association of Northwest Pennsylvania has opted to feature Republican Thompson and Democrat John Edwards at a speaking event on June 13. 'Hot Air' suggests that the speaking event is just a front for a debate between the two former party primary candidates. Tony Snow, former white house press secretary, is set to be 'moderator' for the debate - uh, sorry, - speaking event.

Where is Thompson?

While in the process of finding news about the former presidential Candidate, I found that there really is nothing about Thompson. Others who have dropped out continue to be senators or governors, such as Bill Richardson, but Thompson has nothing to go back to. After having "googled" and "yahooed" his name the only context in which his name appeared is that of him endorsing McCain. Thompson's endorsement was the last we saw of him, and even that wasn't very covered by the press. I then proceeded to check the Internet Movie Database to see what his upcoming television and cinematic appearances will be, but was shocked to find that he is not working on any movies or television shows. Thompson's last television appearance was the HBO sensation "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee." It really seems as if Thompson has gone missing. Perhaps, Thompson is spending some time with his daughters and wife. If possible I will attempt to contact Thompson, and ask him personally what he has been up to. Until then there is nothing that can be done except keep "googling" his name.

Thompson Campaign Financial Records Released

Though Fred Thompson dropped out of the presidential race on January 22 after a disappointing third finish in South Carolina, his campaign reports, which were released last week, indicate that money was not an issue. Thompson raised a total of $23.6 million over the entire duration of his campaign and spend $21.9 million of it. The bigger surprise involved the last week of his campaign - during his frenzied bus tour before the South Carolina Primary, Thompson raised over $2 million. His campaign managed to spend around $300,000 in the final week on various advertisements, but when the campaign finally ended, Thompson had $1.7 million left and just under $400,000 in unpaid expenses. It's unclear what will happen with the $1.3 million that remain.

The Legacy of Fred Thompson

Fred Thompson not only left us with classic Law and Order episodes and the heart warming HBO movie "Bury My Heart In Woonded Knee," or his endorsement to McCain, but he gave us more than that. He taught the nation that in order to win the presidential nomination one must have a good public image. Unofrtunately Thompson was not able to transmit energy and excitement to many of the people who early on thought he was going to do well. Let us recall the buzz about Thompson when he was barely announcing that he was going to enter the race, there was excitement and hope althought he had entered later than the others. From there it was a sudden decline, almost instantly the public was able to detect that Thompson had no flare or passion, in fact, in many interviews when this was brought up he tried to demonstrate a little flare. Perhaps the most essential thing that was learned from Fred Thompson's campaign was that presidential image is crucial, as well as public image and the manner in which one approaches the campaign. Thompson comapred to Obama of Clinton is extremely dry, even compared to McCAin Thompson seems dry. We will probably not even remember Thompson attmept at the white house because there really isn't much to remember, except that it was a forgettable campaign. Unfortunately this is Thompson's legacy, to teach us that public image is essential to americans and that the candidates should not solely depend on their experience or consistency on issues, but on the way the media portrays them as well.

The Love Boat

This past Friday, Fred Thompson, former presidential primary candidate, endorsed current GOP victor, John McCain. Thompson's support came as an after-thought to the McCain campaign but as the GOP gets prepared for the General Election, its important to get as many states behind the GOP ticket. Thompson's endorsement served as transfer of Tennessee GOP voters. As the Democrats still battle it out, Republicans gain the advantage of putting the primary behind them as they advance towards the next step; the General Election. The question is why did Thompson endorse McCain? While McCain has proven his lead, Huckabee is still fighting, hence why not support Huckabee. The Washington Post, quotes Thompson - "close ranks". Also, McCain has proven himself the GOP victor, therefore Thompson has no reason to put himself between his supporters and the GOP general election candidate. Fall 2008, the GOP love boat will go head to head with the democratic nominated candidate.
